I decided to build a new computer after I got my other setup highjacked by my father-in-law. I went with the new Intel 12 Gen i5 12600K with 10 cores and 16 logical processors. The 12 gen brings something new to the table and that’s Efficiency cores.
For this particular model we have the following:
- Total Cores – 10
- Performance Cores – 6
- Efficiency Cores – 4
- Total Threads – 16
All this can boost up to a nice 4.90 GHz without overclocking, paired with an aftermarket cooler from MSI since it comes without one will ensure some mild overclocking to maybe 5.1/5.2 GHz
DDR5
Finally, after waiting for months I was able to purchase ddr5, which until now had an enormous price caused by the memory shortage. I choose 32 GB just to have it in case of “fire”.
As seen from “influencers” who test components ddr5 is able to sustain high speed starting from 4800 MHz and going to 6800 MHz overclocked. I am not going to push that, but for the sake of trying it out maybe will go for 5200 MHz.
RTX 3070 Ventus OC
For the video card, I was finally able to upgrade from my previous GTX 1070 to the long-awaited 3070. There have been issues with purchasing these video cards because you know, mining 🙂
I would have liked the 11 GB version or at least a TI but this is good also.
All of the above paired with a Gigabyte motherboard and 2 M2 SSD for super-speed enclosed into a case from Be Quiet.
Windows 11
The chosen operating system will be of course Windows 11, it’s new, it’s nice, it works. When installing there is a need to upload drivers for Intel VDM so that the drives are detected.
Everything works as planned and once you get used to the speed force you can never accept less than the almost best. I am not much of a gamer but I believe the computer you use should be fast and reliable and when you invest in something try to buy almost the best so it will keep you for the next 5-6 years.
